I'd like to make these rules clear and concise. I'd also like the forumites here to understand quite clearly what it means to post here and do so in relative peace. So here are the rules, nice and simple.
If you are posting in these forums, you agree to the following rules. Any violation of these rules will result in mediation by the moderators, as described in the rules.
I. Spam- The definition of Spam as it pertains to these forums is as follows.
1. Chain letters, pyramid schemes or advertisements for the sole purpose of making profit or any sort of gain other than “sharing news and information” is unwelcome and will be deleted. Advertisement that is not in the form of "word of mouth". A person could say they liked product "A", recommend movie B, or perhaps think comic book series C can serve as inspiration. Any advertisement meant for mass distribution will not be tolerated. There will be exceptions, notably small press items and certain sig line links. Such exceptions will fall under the discretion of the moderators.
2. Anything deemed utter non-sense by the moderators. Any post that has no relevance to anything, and is considered a waste of bandwidth is likely to be deleted. This includes repeat postings of the same subject, offensive subject matter, and topic jacking (changing the subject of a thread for no good reason). This particular type of spam is open to interpretation, and will likely end in a warning via Private Message.
3. Anything that looks like it was sent out by an automated program. This will include aforementioned advertisements, and any other use of automated programs for the purpose of posting to the forums. Any such attempt will likely attempt in a ban.
II. Negative Discussion
Moderators reserve the right and ability to intercede in arguments and conflicts that get out of hand. Moderators also reserve the right to decide when an argument has gotten out of hand. A warning will be handed out to the involved parties, and further misconduct will result in a locked or deleted topic, and possibly the banning of one or more parties.
Negative discussion will include belligerence, excessively angry posts, inflammatory statements, trolling (inciting arguments for no good reason), and controversial material. Moderators have full discretion in deciding what subjects and topics step over the line. Negative discussion can also include harsh criticism against a given company or subject, if the moderators decide that it is out of hand. Slander in any way shape or form (personal attacks) will not be tolerated.
III. Explicit/Illegal/Offensive Subject Matter
Anything deemed offensive, explicit, or potentially illegal by the moderators will result in a deletion of topic, and a stiff warning. Such materials include, but are not limited to:
1. Pornography (pictures, video, audio... text is permitted, if given ample warning) 2. Criminal Subject Matter 3. Illegal materials (downloads, sites, information, etc.) 4. Links to 4-chan 5. Links to outside forums 6. Anything that violates any copyright laws
Once again, the Moderators decide. Anything the moderators don't like will receive a warning the first time, and a ban thereafter. Discretion is key. Certain materials may be allowed if a proper warning is given before hand, though checking with a moderator first is advised.
Links to outside forums are not allowed simply because we have zero power to keep these places "clean" and should someone follow a link from our forum to another and be offended we are still to blame.
IV. Accounts
Any account that is named something offensive and/or belligerent will be asked to re-register, and will summarily be deleted. This is fairly simple.
*Re-appended 03/29/07*
Any account e-mail that is deemed offensive, whether or not it is blocked from sight or not, is not allowed. If your e-mail address offends us, you will know.
Also, only one account per IP. Any violations of this will result in a ban and possbly with further action if we deem it necessary.
*changed 03/29/07* We would like new members to understand that posing or registering from a public computer comes with some risks. You are responsible for any other person using your IP address, and as such, we will be required to ban you should someone else use the same computer (and incidentally, IP address) to violate any of our rules. Just keep that in mind if you are using a library, school, or internet cafe computer. Should you have any issue with this, please contact one of the moderators, and we will deal with it as needed.
V. Copyrights
In a broader sense, copyright violations will be frowned upon. Innocent discussion will be tolerated, but flagrant misuse of intellectual property will not be tolerated. This is fairly open to interpretation, and will likely be discussed between the persons in question, and the moderator. Please, just use your discretion here.
Violation of copyrights include...
1. Conversions of any intellectual property into any system. 2. Discussion of any material that has not been released to the general public, or is subject to a Non Disclosure Agreement. 3. The unauthorized use of artwork or images without permission from the artist or company it was spawned from. This usually applies to independent artists and artwork lifted from books/media without permission.
*Appended 12/10/06* VI. Spoilers
Spoilers that are not noted as such can be reported to a moderator. Spoilers may only be permited with a spoiler warning, either at the beginning of the thread, or the topic title.
It is up to moderators to decide if a spoiler was especially harmful or mean spirited. Spoilers will rarely result in something more than a warning, unless there are repeat instances. Use your own discretion. *End Appendage*
Any repeat offense of any of the above terms will result in a ban. Contesting such warnings, topic deletions, or bans will occur either by e-mail, or private message with the forum's moderator.
These are the rules. Respect them, and we will respect you. I am sure most of you will have no problem with them. Thank you.
