I like the honor system concept, but how would it differ from the old school Lawful (3 to 5) Neutral 2 to -2) or Chaotic (-3 to -5)?
About the alignment gig, its all perception. (as CN said) A good person wouldn't do anything he felt wasn't good. Plain and simple. He can be decieved into doing evil in name of good, but he himself did good in his mind.. though may realize otherwise later(and feel guilt).
on the reverse... an Evil person can do good... but his reasoning behind it is more selfish. IE I do this good act for so and so... so they'll help me later. rather then doing it for the sake of good.
And to the OP's complaint, the PC isn't doing 'good'. Unless the PC believes its justifiable to cast judgment before a crime is committed (Minority Report anyone?)
